Cleaning your coffee brewer is crucial if you want to get rid of accumulated sediments, oil residues and mineral deposits. If you put off cleaning your coffee maker for later, these things will harden up. Coffee maker oil also emits a rather rancid smell if you leave it uncleaned.
Skip the horrors of coffee machine and clean once a week. Every weekend, spend some time to clean your coffee maker. 30 minutes is all it would take. Here are some of the things you can do to clean your automatic coffee maker.
Step 1: Take off all the detachable parts of the coffee machine. The carafe should come right off, the filter basket, the water reservoir, the coffee receptacle, the grinder-all the detachable parts and just leave the rest like that. Clean these detachable parts first using a mild cleaning solution.
Step 2: You can use vinegar mixed with water and then use this to rinse the detachable parts. If you are not comfortable with the idea of using vinegar, you can substitute it with lemon juice. If you are using one with a glass carafe, crush some ice and dump it in the carafe. Mix table salt with this and give your carafe a little swish just to mix all the cleaning agents inside and clean all the areas affected.
Step 3: Once you have cleaned the detachable parts, lay them in a clean towel to dry it off completely. Meanwhile, attend to the rest of the coffee maker.
Step 4: Add a bit of water to baking soda to make a paste. Using a clean cloth, dip it in the baking soda paste and use this to scrub the exterior part of the coffee maker the drip spout. Clean all the dirty areas using this method and make sure all the parts are devoid of any hardened sediments.
Step 5: Dampen the end of the cloth you used for the baking soda and use this to remove the baking soda residues. Make sure no residues are left. Let it dry completely before you put back the detached parts.
With just these simple steps, you can bring back the old glory of your coffee brewer. Sediments and other what-nots are completely gone. Just do a quick washing and rinsing in the middle of the week to keep it smelling fresh and clean. Nothing beats using a clean and smell-free coffee maker.
